Welcome to the first Winter Bird Hike of 2018! We'll hike the trails of Shawnee Prairie (or possibly beyond if there are snowy owls, other winter rarities nearby!) beginning at 3pm (note the late start time) for our "Winter Bird Hike". Bring binoculars if you have them, otherwise, we have a few pair to let you borrow.

The staff of the Darke County Parks hopes the New Year brings you peace and many days discovering the nature in your backyard and beyond!
The Nature Center will be closed on the 1st (Park trails will remain open dawn-dusk). We will re-open on the 2nd.
The Nature Center and Park Offices will be closed today, Dec 30th, due to staff illness. Sorry for the late notice and inconvenience. The trails of Shawnee Prairie will remain open. Exercise caution in parking lots and on park trails due to ice and snow.

While this is the shortest day of the year and the first day of winter, starting tomorrow, each day will get a bit longer as we begin the path to summer's long days. Hang in there!
We hope to see you on the trails as we welcome winter today at 11:28am!
Birders of all ages and experience levels are welcomed to join us weekly on Tuesdays (9-11am) and Wednesdays (3-5pm) for Project FeederWatc at the Nature Center. Help us count birds for Cornell University's ornithologists. This is a great way to stay connected to nature and not have to brave the harsh winter weather. We'll see you at the feeders!

Support Darke County Parks, and sponsor a bucket! Each sponsor will have his/her name placed on a sap bucket along the trail during the Maple Sugarin’ Festival on March 3, 2018.
“Amber Grade” ($25) sponsors will receive a 250 ml bottle of Darke County Parks maple syrup in a decorative maple leaf-shaped glass bottle.
“Fancy Grade” ($40) sponsors will receive two complimentary tickets to the Waffle & Sausage Breakfast on March 3rd from 8AM-noon in addition to a 250 ml bottle of Darke County Parks maple syrup in a decorative maple leaf-shaped glass bottle.
