Adopt-A-Bird Program

The Darke County Parks’ Raptor Education Program is a great way to learn about and experience local raptor species through our animal ambassadors

It costs the park district $60-80 per month to feed a single bird of prey. This does not include medication, vet bills, and equipment. The health and well-being of our birds is a top priority and these expenses are steep… Can you help?

You can “Adopt-a-Bird” at one of two levels (per bird) and these adoptions directly benefit our Raptor Education program. Thank You!

$40 Adoption: Package includes a certificate of adoption with a full-color photo of your bird and a DCP Raptor Education pin. *The adopter is responsible for calling or emailing in order to set a pick-up date for their adoption package.

$75 Adoption: Package includes a certificate of adoption with a full-color photo of your bird, a DCP Raptor Education pin AND a personal meet and greet with your bird for you and up to 3 friends or family. *The adopter is responsible for calling or emailing to set up the meet and greet. Two weeks notice for the day/time is needed to ensure staff availability.

*You gift covers one year and can be renewed annually.

** Patrons who renew annually are eligible to receive an invitation to a VIP raptor program

Eastern Screech-owl: “Pip”

Our Eastern Screech-owl came to us from near Toledo where he was rehabbed due to an injury. He spends most of his day in his cavity box, but frequently visits the nature center for programs.

Red-tailed Hawks:

Sky (M) or Spirit (F)

Our Red-tailed Hawks sadly imprinted on their rehab caretakers and therefore can’t be released. As brother and sister, sibling rivalry abounds, but they are learning quickly and are very smart. (your adoption covers one bird, your choice)

Barred Owl: Umber

Our Barred Owl was rehabbed due to a wing injury and sadly it didn’t heal well enough for sustained flight.
