COVID-19 Update
Posted on March 13 2020 at 12 pm.
As part of our commitment to the health and well-being of our visitors and staff, Darke County Parks is carefully monitoring the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation occurring across the nation, and now in Ohio. We take this situation seriously and are in regular contact with health and other state and local agencies for information and guidance.
The health and safety of our visitors, volunteers and staff is Darke County Parks’ top priority.
At this time, operations are as normal—park areas and trails are open during regular hours and facilities are open for public use.
All programs scheduled through April 4th, 2020 are cancelled and attempts will be made to reschedule for a later date.
All meeting room and facility reservations scheduled through April 4th, 2020 are cancelled. This includes all monthly meetings of clubs and organizations.
Director Roger Van Frank said that decisions regarding cancellations and closures after April 4th will be made in the best interest of the health of park visitors and the community and the evolving COVID-19 public health threat. These are changing sometimes hourly. Please consult the websites of your local, state and federal health departments for up to date recommendations. Currently, the Nature Center at Shawnee Prairie remains a polling place, please consult the Board of Elections.
All facilities district-wide are cleaning and disinfecting both public and employee facilities on a daily basis. In the case of high traffic areas for both the public and employees, this cleaning and disinfecting will occur multiple times per day.
Additionally, Parks staff have been notified about illness prevention, including the CDC’s recommendation of everyday preventive actions to stop the spread of germs.
