Tom Smith Spring
2010
This quarter's Volunteer in the Spotlight has been around nearly as long as the Park District its self! Tom Smith is celebrating his 30th volunteering anniversary this year and has been influential in many aspects of the District.
When the first park, Coppess Nature Sanctuary was set to open, Tom led a group from the Fur, Fish and Game 4-H Club to lay out the path and clear the trail. Since then Tom has helped out with everything from the Levy Committee,
Volunteer Trail Educators, Pioneer Wood Splitter, Friends of the Darke County Parks member, Darke County Birders member, Planning Committee for the Nature Center and the list goes on and on!
Tom feels the best part of his volunteering with the Parks is learning new things about the world around him and meeting new people. Tom would like encourage others to consider volunteering and says
that volunteering provides a nice change of pace, opportunity to meet new people and learn new thing, having fun the whole time! Thanks Tom!
