The Darke County Canoe and Kayak Club was organized in April, 2000 by a group of people hoping to promote canoeing and kayaking in the area. The club hopes to: provide recreational canoe and kayaking opportunities; preserve scenic waterways; increase enjoyment of the out-of-doors; promote water safety and conservation; encourage community involvement.
The club is open to experienced canoers and kayakers. Beginning paddlers can learn through the Parks’ instructional programs. The Darke County Canoe and Kayak Club supports the Darke County Parks in their efforts to educate the public about waterway and natural area conservation.
Throughout the year programs are presented that will appeal to anyone interested in the paddling sports, hiking, natural history and conservation. A variety of field trips are planned for the enjoyment of the outdoors and to increase paddling skills. The region is blessed with an abundance of different types of water to experience. Some outings are on rivers, while others are on lakes. Trips typically are half-day to full day, however longer, overnight trips are also planned. Hiking trips are also scheduled during the off-season.
